Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – A Movie Review
Warning! This review almost could not be done without a thorough re-watch of a beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe film series. That said… Let’s get into it.
Ha-Ha! I fooled you. This is isn’t YouTube. This is a blog that almost nobody reads or knows about. But if you have, by some strange miracle, tuned into this even stranger analysis of Marvel’s—I mean Disney’s— 2023 release of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” enjoy and then go watch the film.
It’s not a sequel and, thankfully, it isn’t a live action remake of the animated classic. No, it’s the final chapter in a saga. Okay, maybe it’s not so much a saga as it is a series of delightful, science fiction narratives brought together and carried forward by novel characters—graphic that is.
Chris Pratt (seen here with two t’s) heads up the cast as Star-Lord Peter Quill. Zoe Saldana, whose tilde is somehow always missing, returns as Gamora. Dave Bautista, whose star is rising still, reprises Drax the Destroyer, while Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff and Vin Diesel—You know what? Yes, they all came back and to their credit, Rocket, Nebula, Mantis, and the one who is Groot made volume three a repeat watch for all three films. Returning as well are several James Gunn coconspirators of several past endeavors, but I won’t spoil you. They give plenty laughs for showing up, which is not to say this writer gives out trophies for participation. If has not been said before, let me say now: If I don’t review it, I didn’t like or love it.
Moving on, which—spoiler alert!—is happening for some of the characters who play our cherished Guardians. So, get to streaming, order a hardcopy, or where you can go see it in the theatre. This exciting showcase of James Gunn’s talent and of a cast we’ve watched for almost ten years is great for everyone.
